What is a bunion
Bunion, also known as (hallux valgus), is a bony bump and thick skin that appears on the joint below the base of the large or small toe.
It causes the big toe to move towards the smaller toes.
When the bony bump rubs against the shoe, the skin reddens, swells, and become painful.
What causes bunion
Bunions are more common in women because of high heels, and pointed toe shoes.

These shoes manipulate the shape of the foot over a period of time.
Bunions are common with older people especially with
arthritis.
If a leg is longer than the other, you are likely to develop bunions on the longer leg.
Weak ligaments in the feet can also cause bunions.
Genetic and neuromuscular diseases as well as family history of bunions can also be responsible for the problem.
