Combine equal parts of the following dried herbs, and drink an infusion made from 1 teaspoon per cup of water, 2 times a day. They are known to regulate excessive menstrual bleeding or menorrhagia.

  • Black haw root: Stem bark, and the root of black haw alleviate spasm of the intestine and uterine. This can help menstruation and menstrual flow to be less painful.

  • Cramp barks relieves cramping by calming uterine spasm.

  • Chaste tree berries: Chaste tree berries help menstrual cycle to be normal by controlling hormone secretion from pituitary glands.

  • Partridge berry also known as squaw vine improves uterine vine, decreases cramping and blood flows.

  • Yarrowis also known to improve uterine tone, and reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.

     

    Homeopathy remedies for heavy menstruation

    Kali carb

    If you experience a heavy period with lower back pain and fluid retention, Kali carb can be of help to you.

    Strawberries were used traditionally to prevent miscarriage, and hemorrhages. Boil a handful of strawberry leaves in a pint of water, and strain for 15 minutes. Sweeten with honey and drink it several times in a day for heavy menstruation.

    Coriander seed home remedy for heavy period

    Make a coriander seed decoction by boiling a teaspoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water till it is reduced to half. Add some sugar or honey to make it sweet and drink it 2-3 times daily for treatment of of menstruation that is heavy.

    Bael leaves

    Grind fresh bael leaves and add 1 teaspoon of the paste to warm water. Drink it once a day to relieve heavy menstrual cycle.

    Black fungus recipe for heavy menstrual cycle

    If you have access to black fungus, mostly found in Chinese shops, you may try this recipe.

    Fry 30g black fungus over low heat and add a bowl of water while it is still cooking. Add 15g sugar for seasoning and eat for heavy menstrual flow with hot flashes. Note: This remedy is not for heavy menstruation due to blood deficiency.

     

    Special diets for heavy menstrual cycle

    Lack of manganese in your food can trigger heavy menstrual flow. A project study in the US Department of Agriculture’s Human Nutrition Research Center, showed the value of manganese to menstruation.

    Women placed on a reduced 1 mg of manganese diet a day, had their blood flow increased by 50 percent. It is therefore recommended that you eat manganese rich foods such as fruits (especially pineapple) and vegetables, whole grains and teas.

    Thyme tea remedy for heavy period

    Add 2 tablespoons of thyme leaves to 2 cups of hot water and let it steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink the first cup.

    Add ice cubes to the second cup and use it as a compress on your pelvic area with a wash cloth. Repeat this process in the morning and evening to control heavy menstruation.

    Other tea remedies

  • Drink 2-3 cups of yarrow tea a day to relieve heavy blood flow or cramps.

  • Add about ¼ of cayenne pepper to your tea and drink it daily to restrict excessive blood flow.

    Cayenne pepper is good for blood regulation.

  • Drink cinnamon tea to control heavy menstrual cycle.

     

    Ways to use cinnamon:

  • Steep a cinnamon stick in a cup of hot water to make tea.

  • Take 4 drops of cinnamon bark tincture (from health food store) in 1 cup of warm water.

  • Take ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a cup of boiled water.

     

    Natural means can be the best alternative for you to overcome heavy period. However, be in consultation with your physician when you decide on natural cures for treatment.
