  • Vitamin E: Take vitamin E before your period. It helps to stabilize estrogen levels and prevent headaches during the time of menstruation.

    The recommended dosage is 400 IU a day, starting a few days before your period, and stopping a day or two after it begins.

  • Magnesium: Magnesium deficiency is known to contribute to menstrual headaches. 40 percent of women with headaches, especially those caused by hormonal changes of menstruation, have lowered blood levels of the mineral magnesium.

    A dosage of 200 milligrams a day in the form of chelated magnesium or magnesium oxide is recommended.It may be increased to 400 milligrams a day, after 7 days if there is no sign of diarrhea on the initial dosage.

    One of the effective natural headache remedies is aromatherapy, which works effectively as ibuprofen.

    Dilute 1 drop of peppermint oil in 2 drops of almond oil, or other carrier oil, and rub it on your temples at the start of a tension headache to relieve pain just as ibuprofen will do.
